In August 2022, AFFCAD Uganda set up two new girls-only safe spaces in the villages of Mukalazi and Tebuyoleka. These are in addition to two that they had already established with the support of the Children’s Rights and Violence Prevention Fund.
Girls-only safe spaces are places where they can meet to discuss the issues that affect them. They can share ideas on economic empowerment and take part in educative and fun activities.
In September 2022, the girls at the newly created safe spaces elected four new peer mentors: Basalwa Viola and Namwanjje Grace Khan for Mukalazi and Nakatumba Victoria and Namwanjje Tracy for Tebuyoleka.
‘I am happy that my fellow girls have believed in me to take up this leadership position and I promise that I will not disappoint them.’ – Nakatumba Victoria upon hearing about her election.
We congratulate all the new mentors and wish them all the best while carrying out their new roles.
None of this would have been possible without the support of our generous donors. If you would like to help young people like these become financially self-sufficient, you can donate here.
