Uganda's Background
We’re trying to minimise the consequences of Uganda’s socially, economically and politically challenging history
Uganda History: A Turbulent Colonial Past
Between 1894 and 1962, Uganda was under the control of the British Empire. During this time, the country’s domestic resources were not distributed equally and the majority of Uganda’s own people were neglected.
These decades of ethnic and religious favouritism have fuelled many violent conflicts across Uganda, which have undermined its development as a nation.

A Young Population In poverty

- Uganda’s population is 44.3 million. 41% are living in poverty (less than $1.90 per day).
- Uganda has one of the youngest populations of any country in the world: almost half of its people are under 15 years old.
- Multidimensional poverty affects 56% of Uganda’s under-18 population.
