A mentor speaking at the girls' camp

As part of ongoing efforts to build a girls’ movement, AFFCAD Uganda and four mentors from its girls-only safe spaces took part in a camp at Boston High School in Entebbe in August 2022.

Organised by the Children’s Rights and Violence Prevention Fund (CRVPF) and its partners in the Adolescent Girls Power Program, the camp’s theme was ‘By Girls, With Girls’ and its slogan ‘Yes We Can’.

Eighty-five girls attended from Central, Luweero and Lyantonde clusters and were able to take part in highly interactive and educational discussions on adolescent health, hygiene, and life skills.

Other activities included a campfire, movie nights, football, and Zumba dancing as well as a visit to the beach and the zoo. Attendees enjoyed opportunities to relax, laugh, eat, celebrate, exercise, tell stories, play, and bond.

‘The camp has been so exciting, educational and fun.’ – Nakabiito Sumaya, a peer mentor from Mukalazi Safe Space

The camp is part of CRVPF and its partners’ efforts to build a movement of empowered adolescent girls to transform and challenge structures that deny them choice and power.
