Fashion marketing students from the University for Creative Arts, Faye and Liv came out with us on the first Experience Uganda trip. They bought with them a camera, an empty photo album, knowledge of the fashion industry and a passion to get stuck in!
Week 1 was spent working with our tailoring graduates at AFFCAD’s shop Unique. Faye, Liv and Sharon (Unique’s shop manager) worked with local models to put on a photo shoot displaying the very best work of our tailors. Together they put the pictures in an album and worked on marketing the colourful clothes and accessories to local shops. In return Faye and Liv learnt all about African prints, art, designs, tailoring and jewellery making techniques visiting the fabric markets of Kampala and making a lot of new friends!
Weekend Excursion Together with the tailors, the AFFCAD Uganda team and us, Faye and Liv went on a village tour for the weekend experiencing rural life and the beautifully green Ugandan countryside staying in the family home of Brian, AFFCAD’s finance director. This was a taste of the real Uganda including barbequed goat, spice tours, storytelling and even a witch doctor!
Week 2 was spent touring western Uganda, stopping at the Equator and relaxing by the pool before an incredible safari around Queen Elizabeth National Park
